Scientific interests
- Design and synthesis of phosphonium, phosphine and phosphinoxy derivatives of natural isothiocyanates with potential anticancer and antibacterial activity.
Natural isothiocyanates such as sulforaphane show documented chemopreventive and anticancer activities. The obtained phosphorus analogs of sulforaphane showed in vitro anticancer activity more potent than natural isothiocyanates.
- Microwave radiation-assisted synthesis of organophosphorus compounds
The use of microwave radiation makes it possible to shorten synthesis time while improving product purity at the same time. This technique has been successfully applied in the synthesis of azides and monoesters of phosphonic acids, among others.
- Synthesis of isothiocyanates and cyclic thioureas
Known methods of isothiocyanate synthesis require the use of desulfurizing reagents to convert transiently formed dithiocarbamates into isothiocyanates. We have demonstrated that the desulfurization process can proceed spontaneously under the influence of microwave radiation alone.
